Q. What is
DERIVED QUANTITIES AND UNITS?
Ans. a) In physics, we come across a large number of
quantities like speed, momentum, resistance, conductivity, etc. which depend on
some or all of the seven FUNDAMENTAL QUANTITIES and can be expressed in terms
of the FUNDAMENTAL QUANTITIES, are called derived units.
ForExample,
1) SI unit of velocity
= Unit of displacement/Unit of time= m/s
=m s-1
2) Unit of momentum= (Unit of mass) X (Unit of velocity)
= kg m/s
= kg m s-2
The above two units are derived units.
